Succeed – Day 23 – The cure-all for every fear and the greatest confidence builder of all time
Yesterday we spoke of embracing failure – and overcoming fear.
Let’s talk more today about the best way to do that…because fear can be so paralyzing.
How do we eliminate fear?
First let’s combine our new knowledge that “Failure is the path of success” and “Our croc brain doesn’t want to fail.”
Inherently, our brain is built to RESIST the ‘failure’ part of the success process.
We are not built to automatically succeed.
Our survival instinct that is amazing – our built-in fear gauge keeps us alive!
But we need to regulate it so it doesn’t hold us back from doing all the amazing failing we MUST do in order to succeed big in life.
How do we regulate it?
Use the “Mini-priority” technique we have discussed.
Here are a couple examples:
As a writer this would be like this: “Just write 100 words, no matter how bad they are. Just get them out of your head as fast as possible”
Those 100 words may be a complete flop – but that’s actually great! Because now I’m in motion, taking action, and I’ve got the bad ones out of the way.
If you need to make phone calls to progress one of your worthy goals it’s like this: “Make ONE phone call”.
You limit yourself to only fearing ONE potential rejection instead of the10 rejections you might fear if you write your priority “Make 10 phone calls”.
Small priorities, small tasks, and small steps can GREATLY REDUCE fear, overwhelm, and lack of confidence.
Small is the way to success.
When you are prioritizing and planning your day always remember – daily priorities are best SMALL.
Okay – so you’ve written your small priorities and you still feel fear?
Often just getting clear on the small steps we need to take reduces fear to almost nothing.
But there’s only one thing to do to knock fear flat on its face.
That’s the cure-all for every fear, which has been taught by thousands of teachers throughout the ages…
“Do the thing you fear, and the death of fear is certain.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.” – Dale Carnegie
Want to know one way to tell when you’ve got a worthy goal that will exhilarate and fulfill you??
You feel fear!
Feeling fear is a GREAT sign that you are on the right track – you’re on the way OUT of your comfort zone, and heading straight toward growth and fulfillment.
Now it’s time to ACT in the face of that fear.
Fear is actually the target you should be aiming for – I’m grateful for fear because it points the way forward.
Yes it’s scary – but you have two options: 1 – Take action, crush the fear, and feel exhilarated & alive! Or…
2 – Retreat back to the comfort zone, continue feeling fear, increased dread, unhappiness, and now a reduced self-confidence.
What if you take action and you get rejected or it doesn’t work!?
Okay, you’ll probably feel some disappointment, BUT…your confidence goes up because you have conquered your self and your fears!
“A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.” – George Bernard Shaw
Do you really want to sit back in comfort leaving butt prints in the sands of time? Of course not;)
Famous American singer Beverly Sills said, “You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don’t try.” – Beverly Sills
If you struggle to put yourself out there and take risks for fear of criticism or mockery, consider what Aristotle said: “There is only one way to avoid criticism: Do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing.”
Embrace the fact that YOU WILL be criticized if you attempt to do something bigger with your life.
Don’t delude yourself into thinking you’ll only get 5 star reviews…you are perfectly capable of handling criticism.
Some people will criticize and mock you! They are called haters. They exist.
Some people criticize and mock me, my books, and my message.
But what about the 80% of people who are truly grateful for the positive impact in their life?
Or the 50%? Or what if it’s only 10%? Still what about them?
I’m not going to stop putting myself out there and taking action toward my worthy goals because some people don’t like it…and I hope you don’t either.
You are on this earth to give and do good! People need you!
Someone needs your voice. Someone needs your compassion. Someone needs your music.
Someone needs what only you can give!!
Let the haters hate.
You have a worthy goal to work toward!
Remember, “No genuine satisfaction in life can ever be attained by you or anyone else, who simply refuses to take risks.” – Bob Proctor
Every small action you take builds your confidence and crushes fear.
Make Today Amazing!
