Smile – Day 2 – Picture in your mind, Feel it in your heart

Welcome to day 2!  Did you feel, act, and write as an appreciator yesterday?

Good…keep it up.  You can do this.

Here’s your simple reminder of the 3 steps to focus on this month:

1. Appreciate with Feeling: Every morning spend time in deep, emotional gratitude as you picture in your mind what you are thankful for.

2. Appreciate in Action:  Throughout each day, practice thinking of something you are grateful for and smiling or expressing verbal gratitude to others.

3. Appreciate through Writing: Every evening before bed write at least 5 things you’re grateful for in a journal.

I’ll go into detail on item 1 today, but first a brief look at the bigger picture.

If you have been through my other trainings you already notice that this is one additional habit I’m inviting you to establish.

That doesn’t mean you want to lose the previous habits you’ve established.

Each habit is a building block in your ‘Truly Amazing Morning’.

And I’m going to give you the outline of The Truly Amazing Morning Today as a reference and a guide.

A Truly Amazing Life is yours for the living TODAY and it is the direct result of consciously making today amazing.

And the best way to make today amazing is to start each day with a ‘Truly Amazing Morning’ routine.

Now the order to these is NOT CRITICAL.

Sometimes I do this in the order listed, but often I mix it around.

Sometimes I go running very first thing when I wake up for example.

Moving your body first thing in the morning can often be a great way to get yourself feeling good right away.

The key is to just establish these habits over time.

I share this framework with you right now just so you can see how everything fits into the whole scheme of designing a Truly Amazing Life

We’ll cover each of the 12 habits in detail in their own module for an entire month together.

So don’t worry about establishing all of these right now!

In fact, please DON’T attempt to try to focus on all of them.

That will only overwhelm you.

But feel free to start using this list as a checklist for the habits you’ve already got…that’s what I do each morning.

That way I don’t have to think about what I’m going to do…it’s all just right there – A perfect bluprint for creating a Truly Amazing Morning every single day.

BUT NOW LET US FOCUS OUR ENERGY FOR MAX IMPACT…

This month we will laser-focus on item 2 – ‘Appreciate through deep gratitude.’

 

So let’s dive into the first item on our list of 3 things this month:

  1. Appreciate with Feeling:

Do this in front of a mirror when possible, but at minimum do this in your heart wherever you are.  

Do this very first thing right when you wake up in the morning if possible.

It can be as little as a minute and up to as long as you’d like to get yourself into a state of feeling joyful.

Our goal in the habit of Appreciate is to FEEL GOOD.

Relaxing, breathing, and expressing deep gratitude for anything and everything possible produces a wonderful feeling state – and no pen or paper or anything is required.

A mirror is not required either, but using a mirror is a powerful way to focus, and it is really beneficial to thank yourself for the good that you do and for the amazing person you are.

Because we tend to beat ourselves up and we never deserve that.

Even if we do mess up and let ourselves down, it never merits treating ourselves harshly.

Yet we all do it sometimes.

We get sucked into believing the lies of the mischievous ego in our head that “we are a failure”, or “we’ll never live up”, or “we’re not good enough”…

…All of which are false.

So it’s helpful to look in the mirror and say something like:

“Thank you Aaron, I appreciate your sincere efforts.  I know that you did your best and your heart is in the right place.  Thank you for that.”

That’s just one example, but looking in the mirror is powerful.

Again, not necessary, and the key is that first thing in the morning you START YOUR DAY by getting yourself FEELING grateful.

Do this by picturing in your mind things you are grateful for

Then allow yourself to FEEL grateful as you think ‘I’m thankful for _(fill in the blank)_” in your heart.

So to recap in one simple sentence:

START EACH DAY BY FEELING DEEPLY GRATEFUL.

It will set the tone for your day and your life.

Living in gratitude is living happiness.

As you follow these three steps with devotion each day this could very well be the happiest month of your life yet!
